Xolo is making a big appearance with its smart phone offerings with very reasonable price tags, soon after the launch of its HIVE based smart phone Play 8X-1000, the company has bought out another decently priced phone, the Xolo Q 510s with sensible specifications to fit into its budget. The phone carries a price tag of Rs. 6499. Let’s review it.
The Xolo Q 510 S comes with an IPS display and a MediaTek chipset, the phone fits into the entry level smart phone category, it cannot shake even a bolt out of its pricier competitors. However, it is priced in such a way that might cause quite the havoc in the entry level smart phone market. The CPU of the Xolo 510s is a quad-core Cortex A7 running at 1.3GHz, which should provide enough power for the Android 4.4 KitKat platform. RAM is a decent 1GB and the microSD-expandable internal storage stands at 8GB, The SoC used in the Xolo phone is a MediaTek 6582M chipset which is an adequate performer and it is engaged with a 416MHz Mali-400 MP2 graphics engine to handle the gaming and graphic requirements. The phone is an overall efficient multi tasking device. The device comes with a Dual SIM slot, one slot supports 3G and the second slot is built to support 2G. It has dual standby too.
Design and Display:
The 128x63x8.98 mm bar phone sports a 4 inch IPS TFT display with a WVGA screen resolution of 800 x 480 pixels with 16 million colors is quite standard in the budget smart phone category and this phone seems to do just fine. The phone’s basic display is sufficient enough to perform basic tasks like capturing stills, watching videos, browsing the net and playing games. The device seems pretty sinewy and it should do just fine. However, the catch is that the Xolo Q510s is going to be sold only in gold color, although that mostly concerns the metal frame, with the front panel being black and the back coming in white. This might/might not seem appealing to the diverse population, however let’s hope the masses give this device a proper welcome. The actual release date is yet to be announced.
Network and Connectivity:
Although the device fits into the base category, please don’t judge it just yet because it has various connectivity options that would leave you surprised. The device supports GSM: 900/1800 MHz HSDPA: 2100 MHz bands. As far as connectivity is concerned, the device supports Bluetooth (v 4.00) , Wi-fi (802.11 b/ g/ n) , USB as well as GPS, it also supports data networks such as GPRS, EDGE, 3G and an Android Web kit browser, the browser does not support Java or Flash. The 8GB memory phone has a Micro SD card slot and the memory can be expanded to 32 GB. The phone also supports SMS, MMS and Email. The device has a Proximity sensor as well as an Accelerator Sensor but lacks a Compass / Magnetometer, Gyroscope, Barometer as well as a Temperature sensor.
The Xolo Q510S has a small Li-ion 1500 mAh capacity battery that is just about right for the meager hardware and feature options. It is claimed that the battery has a standby time of 390 hours while the Talk time with a single charge lasts for 900 minutes. Don’t forget that this is a less demanding phone and hence the battery is built in that manner. It might love the charger more than you.
Camera and Multimedia:
The device has a 5 Megapixel primary camera with LED flash that resides on the rear side of the device with a resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels (it is not the best kind of camera, but it serves basic photography purposes) the device also has a secondary 0.3 megapixel camera that is just there and clicks the pixilated version of you. The device can also do 1080p video recording and provides a decent quality video even in low light conditions. The device is built around entertainment and sports up an FM Radio, an Audio Player that supports 64 polyphonic ringtones along with MP3/MIDI/WAV/AMR audio files and supporting video formats.
The phone runs on an Android Kit Kat operating system which is a prominent feature for its price, there is an issue with the low battery backup and may be the device color choice limitation. But overall it is a price worthy buy and gives enough competition to the phones ranging within the Rs. 10,000 range.
