Apple iPad Mini 3: Mini 2 gets launched all Over again but for the Cellular Connectivity
As the iPad Air 2 keeps on gathering accolades for the truckloads of specs packed in, the iPad Mini 3 silently looks on. While the Mini 3 may feel a bit lackluster as compared to the power-packed brother, Apple mostly went a step backwards with the associated design and even the feel. We did find a lot regarding the specs sheet as announced by the company and for the iPad Mini 3 lovers, the news isn’t that heartening. While the company didn’t go crazy about embracing the product with open arms, only a few boxes have been ticked on the way forward.
Pros: The Company didn’t put in a lot into the device which still sports a great layout backed up by the sharper finish and a great interface. Touch ID has been persisted with and this makes for a great addition on the part of Apple. We did find the 4G cellular support which is a new technology as introduced under the fabled Apple SIM.
Cons: The iPad Mini 3 leaves much to be desired as the upgrades aren’t heartening enough as per the design and layout are considered. Apple kind of reintroduced a similar device as most of the attention has been rendered upon the Air 2. Power backup does falter whereas the high price is surely a letdown when the redundancy is to be considered.
Here is a detailed review of the iPad Mini 3 which banks upon the company’s and doesn’t come up with anything substantial to add to the claims. While the chassis looks to be slightly thicker, screen does look a tad dull as compared to the previous iterations.
Did Apple actually try to make this model look and feel better? The answer isn’t quite available as we did find the iPad Mini 3 to be slightly heavier and thicker in comparison to the Mini 2.Wait, we did miss out on something, actually the dimensions are perfectly identical and this keeps the hope alive that the company must have added something here and there. We did search out brains out as per the renders and sheets but could make out a single change although the back panel does feel a bit better with the withstanding ceramic feel. While the edges come out to be chamfered ones, one may still get a premium feel as for the strategic placement of buttons and regulatory tabs. Here is the 7.9 inch console which hasn’t been played with much as per the design cues are considered but still makes the iPad Mini 3 a great option to keep looking at.
This actually happens to be the saving grace as the Touch ID comes good with the fingerprint sensor added into the mix. Apple does believe that a multifold protective layer is going to entice a larger audience and the justifications are rather well panned out. While the technology is nothing but new, the competence is assured besides the added feature enabling and authenticating app purchases as well. Do keep all the payment information secure and undertake seamless purchases with this innovative addition in Touch ID.
The powerful chipset hasn’t been included as the iPad Mini 3 still keeps on persisting with the A7 processor. Innards do feel similar though as who would look to buy a device when the similar features are being sold at a lower price. One might flinch a bit regarding the vitality of the 64 bit architecture but the redundancy gets quite a severe hit with the purported 1GB RAM. Be it the faster clock speed or greater number of optimizations, the iPad Mini 3 does perform slightly better than the predecessor with reasons still being unknown.
The 7.9 inch console looks sharper if seen in isolation but when compared to the iPad Mini 2, it is surely a laggard. While the resolution happens to be the same at 1536x2048, the entire display happens to be a scaled down version of the Air 2. The colors do look great but we did expect something better at least this time around. The glare protection scheme needs to be checked as per the hands-on experience but by the looks of it we could infer than the company did bail out on one. One might find a staggering 16M color combinations backing up the claims whereas the 326PPI pixel density does fit in rather perfectly.
Camera and Battery:
The basic 5MP primary snapper with the iSight technology is quite evident out here whereas the 1.2MP front camera has been persisted with. While the HDR captures and the HD recordings are quite easy to initiate, the time lapse video inclusion could have been a better spec. The overall snapping performance happens to be on the lower side regardless of the multiple technologies added into the mix. The LED flash seems to be missing even this time over, which further makes us believe as why the iPad Mini 3 was even launched in the first place. Battery support has been quoted at a considerable 10 hours at high usage whereas the cellular model is all set to lower this down a tad bit.
OS and Multiple variants:
One may find models pertaining to larger storage size whereas colored variants are also up for grabs. The iPad Mini 3 runs the iOS 8.1 upgraded straight out of the box which includes the Continuity features as quite a prudent handoff between the phone and tab based specifications, letting you receive calls over the same network.
The Cellular Mode:
In comes the latest vigil from the company so as to allow the users change mobile networks and data plans, actually on the go. The usual SIM slot is provided with a software specified tracking mechanism which would easily track and get hold of the usable data providers over any given network. While the encryption code and a unique ID are allotted to the user, the entire process is highly secured and seamless as per the Soft SIM or the Apple SIM handoff mechanism.
A slightly better build and the upgraded OS are the only added benefits associated with the iPad Mini 3 whereas the cellular model does include a newer technology which can readily be invested into.
