RICOH WG-4: Featuring 16MP Image Sensor and a 3 Inch Screen
Ricoh has stepped onto the world of compacts with the latest WG-4. This is one rugged gadget that offers the newest connectivity schemes in addition to a pretty powerful sensor. Here is more about the RICOH WG-4:
The RICOH WG-4 is one reliable compact that offers 4608x3456 pixels as the maximum image resolution. The 16MP image sensor translates out of the 17MP photo detector. The RICOH WG-4 supports other resolutions as well with the lowest being 640x480 pixels. In terms of image ratio, the RICOH WG-4 supports 1:1, 4:3 and the standard 16:9. The sensor layout on offer is 1/ 2.3 inch. The image sensor measures 6.17mmx4.55mm in terms of dimensions. In terms of ISO sensitivity, the BSI-CMOS sensor offers an exhaustive range of 125-6400 besides supporting the auto mode for low-light conditions. 6 white balance presets are tagged along followed by the solitary custom white balance mode. Sensor-shift image stabilization is on offer for better clarity. RAW or uncompressed image format is excluded but the RICOH WG-4 offers fine, basic and normal JPEG quality levels.
Focus and Optics
The RICOH WG-4 offers an equivalent focal range of 25-100mm. The optical zooming limit for the same is 4X. A powerful lens is added into the mix, offering maximum lens aperture of F2.0-F4.9. The RICOH WG-4 supports autofocus along with certain featured modes like center, tracking, live view and many more. Manual focus is also integrated in addition to the digital zooming limit of up to 7.2X. The RICOH WG-4 offers normal focus range of 40cm besides the macro focus range of 1cm. 9 focus points are added into the scheme of things for better clarity.
A fixed screen is on offer with 460K dots as the display resolution. A 3 inch screen is featured that misses out on touch support. The TFT LCD panel supports Live View but misses out on a dedicated viewfinder.
Photography and Videography
The RICOH WG-4 offers a shutter speed range of 4-1/4000sec. The RICOH WG-4 is ably supported by the shutter priority mode. Other notable specs include multiple subject or scene modes besides the built-in flash support. The RICOH WG-4 offers an extended flash range of 10.00m and that too at the auto ISO mode. Flash modes are offered in plenty with the featured ones being auto, flash off and redeye. The RICOH WG-4 supports burst shooting at 1.5fps. A self-timer is integrated besides the multiple metering modes like multi, spot and center-weighted. The RICOH WG-4 also supports AE bracketing and even the exposure compensation mode. In terms of video recording prowess, the RICOH WG-4 supports Full HD at 30fps. HD movies can also be recorded at 30 and 60 frames per second. In terms of video format, the RICOH WG-4 supports H.264. Stereo and mono microphone are also integrated.
Connectivity and Storage
The RICOH WG-4 supports USB2.0, micro-HDMI output and remote access. 70MB is the internal storage tick, expandable further via the SD, SDXC and SDHC digital cards.
Build and Battery
The RICOH WG-4 is shockproof, crushproof and even freezeproof besides being powered by the Li-Ion D-LI92 battery module, supporting up to 240 shots on a single charge.
