Olympus OMD E-M5: Featuring a 16MP Image Sensor and Sensor Shift Image Stabilization
Olympus has reinvented the concept of Mirrorless cameras with the latest OMD E-M5. Touted as one affordable camera, this Mirrorless boasts of excellent connectivity schemes and a loaded specs sheet. Here is how the gadget looks like in detail:
The OMD E-M5 boasts of a 16MP image sensor, offering a maximum image resolution count of 4608x3456 pixels. Other denominations are perfectly supported as well with the lowest being 384x512 pixels. In terms of aspect ratio, the OMD E-M5 supports 1:1, 4:3, 3:2 and the standard 16:9. In terms of the featured sensor, the OMD E-M5 sports the CMOS make that measures 17.3mmx13mm in terms of dimensions. The ‘Four Thirds’ image sensor pairs up with the TruePic VI image processor, for better clarity. The OMD E-M5 features an extended ISO sensitivity range of 200-25600 besides working in the Auto mode. 12 white balance presets are supported as well besides the single custom white balance mode. Image stabilization is supported as well based on the sensor shift technology. RAW image format is supported as well by the OMD E-M5.
Focus and Optics
The OMD E-M5 supports autofocus and the multiple modes associated in Contrast Detect, Multi-area and many more. Manual focus is also included based on the Live View option. 35 focus points are also supported for better clarity. The OMD E-M5 features the built-in lens mount in Micro Four Thirds, offering a crop limit of up to 2X.
The OMD E-M5 offers a shutter speed range of 60-1/4000 sec besides supporting the aperture and shutter priority modes. Manual exposure mode is supported in addition to the multiple subject or scene modes. External flash is supported by the OMD E-M5 via the Hoe-shoe. Multiple flash modes include Auto, On, Off besides the Manual mode based on 3 separate levels. Burst shooting is allowed at 9 frames per second. This camera also supports multiple metering modes besides the self timer and the exposure compensation mode. WB and AE bracketing are also supported.
In terms of video support, the OMD E-M5 can capture Full HD movies at 60 frames per second. HD mode and 480p are supported as well at 30 frames per second. H.264 and Motion JPEG are the supported modes. Stereo microphone is included as well besides the mono speaker.
The OMD E-M5 boasts of a tilting LCD panel measuring 3 inches in terms of screen size. 610K dots, is the offered resolution and this camera comes with touch support. The OLED monitor looks clear and vibrant besides featuring the Live View option. An electronic viewfinder is paired along with 100 percent coverage and a magnification limit of up to 1.15X. Offered resolution for the same is 1440K dots.
Connectivity and Storage
The OMD E-M5 boasts of USB 2.0 in addition to the Mini-HDMI output. Wireless connectivity is also on offer via Eye-Fi support. In terms of storage, the OMD E-M5 supports SD, SDHC and SDXC cards.
