Olympus OM-D E-M1: Featuring a 16MP Sensor, TruePIC VII Processor and the Bundled Lens Kit
Olympus has launched the OM-D E-M1, a Mirrorless camera that beefs up the ‘Micro Four Thirds’ lineup from the company. Besides sporting a durable chassis, the OM-D E-M1 focuses on an improved AF system and here is how the specs sheet looks like:
The OM-D E-M1 sports a 16MP image sensor that offers a maximum image resolution count of 4608x3456 pixels. Other denominations are supported as well besides the featured aspect ratios in 1:1, 3:2, 4:3and the standard 16:9. The four thirds sensor measures 17.3mmx13mm in terms of dimensions. Besides the CMOS image sensor, this Mirrorless camera boasts of the TruePIC VII image processor, for better clarity.
The OM-D E-M1 features an ISO sensitivity range of 100-25600. 7 white balance presets are available in addition to the custom white balance mode. The sensor shift image stabilization is supported in addition to the 5 axis IS. RAW image format is supported as well besides multiple JPEG quality levels in Super Fine, Basic, Normal and Fine.
Focus and Optics
The OM-D E-M1 boasts of autofocus with certain featured modes like Face Detection, Live View and many more. Digital zoom is available up to 2X. This camera also supports the manual focus and that too with focus peaking. 81 focus points are supported in addition to the Micro-Four thirds lens mount, featuring a crop limit of up to 2X.
The OM-D E-M1 incorporates several camera modes in Aperture priority, shutter priority and multiple scene modes. The manual exposure mode is also featured beside the availability of external flash. The OM-D E-M1 supports hot-shoe integration and wireless syncing besides several modes like Flash auto, Manual, Redeye etc. Burst shooting is supported at 10 frames per second. The OM-D E-M1 also boasts of a self timer working at 2 or 10 seconds. 3 metering modes are included in addition to the exposure compensation mode, WB bracketing and AE bracketing.
In terms of video support, the OM-D E-M1 easily captures movies in Full HD or 1080p at 30 frames per second. Other resolutions in HD and 480p are supported as well. Based on the video formats, the OM-D E-M1 supports both Motion JPEG and H.364. Stereo microphone is included in addition to the mono speaker for an immersive experience.
The OM-D E-M1 boasts of a tilting screen that measures 3 inches. In terms of resolution, 1040K dots are featured. The LCD panel provides touch screen support in addition to the Live Viewing option. An electronic viewfinder is also incorporated with 100 percent screen coverage. Viewfinder magnification limit for the OM-D E-M1 is 1.48X and the offered resolution is fixed at 2360K dots.
Connectivity and Storage
In terms of connectivity, the OM-D E-M1 features USB 2.0 and micro HDMI port besides Built-in wireless support, and optional remote access. In terms of memory cards, SD, SDHC and SDXC digital cards are supported.
Design and Battery
The OM-D E-M1 is an environmentally sealed camera that weighs 497g and powered by the BLN-1 Li-Ion battery module, supporting up to 350 shots on a single charge.
The M.Zuiko Digital 12 - 50 mm f3.5 - 6.3 EZ lens kit is bundled along, featuring electric zoom and better AF capabilities.
