Nikon D5300 with 18-200mm REVIEW:

As an upgraded version of the D 5200 DSLR, Nikon introduced the D5300 with more promising features. The D 5300 was introduced in October 2013 worldwide. Following is a review on the D 5300 coupled with the Tamron 18-200 mm lens.

Built with an EXPEED 4 processor, the D 5300 has a few upgrades that are majorly found under the cameras hood. The DSLR has a 24 Megapixel Image Sensor that has been unchanged since the D 5200. By removing the anti-aliasing filter, this DSLR has a touch of the high-end features, thereby adding clarity and sharpness a notch higher than the usual. This camera has new features such as Wi-Fi and GPS that makes file transfers easy. There are plenty of features that seem pretty common among most cameras these days. The D 5300 also has the capability of shooting Jpeg as well as Raw files at 5fps and it also shoots HD 1080p videos.

Design and Display:

The D5200 and the D5300 look just about the same when placed next to each other. The D 5300 however, has an all-new grip and provides a firm grip over its older sibling. The D5300 has a simplistic, yet powerful approach. The camera looks pretty sturdy and rigid and follows Nikon’s standard. Built on its rear end is a 1037-million dot LCD screen. The screen is the tilt and swivel type, unlike the fixed one on the D 5200. Nikon has been pretty rational while placing the controls on this camera. The handling capability of the camera is pretty far out and it gives an upper edge. This camera has a rear control dial suited for manual users too. The camera has an optical VF and has 0.82x magnification along with 95% coverage. Design wise, the camera has no significant changes but the display is better and sharper than before. Overall, this camera has a great and sturdy look that suits most users.

The D5300 supports EN-EL14 or the EN-EL 14A Lithium-ion powered batteries. Nikon claims the battery life at 600 shots once the battery is powered up.

Tamron 18-200mm Lens

As an option, users can opt for third party lenses. Tamron is one of the leading manufacturers of third party lenses. Apart from being quite economical, there are plenty of lenses that suit various mounts. The 18-200 mm lens from Tamron is a decent buy for money. Towards the extreme (200mm) the images seem pretty noisy, but below that, the results seem quite reasonable. The Tamron lenses can be picked up for a great deal.

Bottom Line:

Overall, the Nikon D5300 constitutes a great DSLR camera with plenty of new features. A good upgrade for those willing to shift from a point and shoot or from an old DSLR.
