Nikon D5200: Featuring a 24.1MP Image Sensor, 39 Focus Points and Bundled Lens Kits

Nikon has launched its latest DSLR in D5200, a much improved version of the existing D5100. Certain tweaks have been made as well besides packing in reliable low-light shooting specs. Here is how the specs sheet looks like:


The D5200 boasts of a 24MP image sensor, offering a resolution of 6000x4000 pixels. Other resolutions are supported as well with the lowest being 2992x2000 pixels. Image ratio in 3:2 is featured. The APS-C image sensor measures 23.5mmx15.60mm in terms of dimensions besides sporting the CMOS make. EXPEED 3 image processor is also available for initiating better clicks. ISO sensitivity range for the D5200 is 100-6400 expandable up to 25600 with the boost turned on. The Auto mode is also supported in terms of ISO sensitivity.  5 custom white balance modes are integrated with this gadget in addition to the 12 white balance presets. Image stabilization is given a miss but the uncompressed RAW format is featured along. Basic, Fine and Normal JPEG quality levels are included as well. This DSLR supports both autofocus and manual focus with several modes in Single, Live View and many more. 39 focus points are supported as well in addition to the Nikon F lens mount. The focal length multiplication limit for the same is 1.5X.

Photography and Videography

In terms of photography, the D5200 offers a shutter speed range of 30-1/4000 sec. Aperture and shutter priority modes are supported as well in addition to the manual exposure and subject modes. Built-in flash makes an appearance via Pop-Up, offering a flash range of up to 12.00m at ISO 100. External flash is supported via Hot-Shoe in addition to the built-in flash modes like On, Off and many more. Continuous shooting is supported as well at 3 frames per second. Self timer is featured along besides 3 metering modes.

The D5200 comes loaded with Full HD movie recording capability at 60 frames per second. This camera also supports HD or 720p movies at 60 frames per second. MPEG-4 and H.264 video formats can be supported besides multiple notes. Mono speaker makes an appearance in addition to the stereo microphone.


The D5200 offers a fully articulated screen measuring 3 inches. Screen resolution is restricted at921K dots. The TFT LCD Monitor features the Live View in addition to subject tracking and face detection. Optical Penta-mirror is the featured viewfinder with 95 percent coverage. Magnification limit for the viewfinder is 0.78X.

Connectivity and Storage

The D5200 packs in USB 2.0 and the Mini-HDMI port in terms of connectivity schemes followed by the Optional wireless support. In terms of storage expansion, the D5200 supports SD, SDHC and SDXC digital cards.

Build and Battery

In terms of dimensions, the D5200 measures 129mmx98mmx78mm besides weighing 555g. Powering the same is the EN-EL14 battery module.

Lens Kits

The AF-S 18-55mm VR Lens and AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G Twin Lens kits come bundled with this DSLR. The former offers vibration reduction and F/3.5-5.6 as the lens aperture. The latter features the AF-S motor in addition to 7 optical elements.
