Nikon 3100: Featuring a 14MP Sensor, 11 Focus Points and Bundled Lens Kits
Nikon 3100 looks pretty similar to its predecessor but offers few heartening modifications to rely upon. Added specs and the bundled lens kits make this camera a great bet for the beginners. Here is how the specs sheet looks like:
This compact SLR sports a 14MP image sensor, offering maximum image resolution of 4608x3072 pixels. Image ratio is 3:2 is featured and this camera also supports other image resolutions with the lowest being 2304x1536 pixels. The APS-C sensor measures 23.1mmx15.4 mm in terms of dimensions. The CMOS image sensor works together with the Expeed 2 image processor. The Nikon 3100 features an ISO sensitivity range of 100-3200 in the Auto mode, which can be extended up to 12800 using the boost. The Nikon 3100 offers a shutter speed range of 30-1/4000 sec. Both aperture and shutter priority modes are supported in addition to the manual exposure and multiple scene modes. Built-in flash support is available with a range of 12.00m. External flash makes an appearance via wireless sync or the Hot-Shoe. Multiple flash modes in Auto, Red-Eye and many more are supported as well. Burst shooting is allowed at 3.0 frames per second. This camera also packs in a self timer besides 3 metering modes and the exposure compensation mode.
In terms of video support, the Nikon 3100 captures movies in Full HD or 1080p at 24 fps. HD and 424p movies can also be recorded at 30 and 24fps, respectively. MPEG-4 is the supported video format. Mono microphone and speaker are also featured along.
The Nikon 3100 boasts of a 3 inch fixed TFT LCD monitor. The offered resolution for this camera is fixed at 230K dots. Live view is present but the touch support is given a miss. Optical Penta-mirror is featured as the viewfinder with 95 percent coverage and magnification limit of 0.8X.
Connectivity and Storage
In terms of connectivity, the Nikon 3100 offers USB 2.0 for faster file transfers. Mini HDMI port is included in addition to the built-in Wi-Fi and optional remote control. SD, SDHC and SDXC digital cards are supported for expanding the storage limit.
