Canon IXUS 170: Featuring a 20MP Sensor and DIGIC 4+ Processor
Canon picks up the tempo with its latest IXUS 170 which looks like a competent camera, focusing on performance rather than looks. The specs sheet associated with this stylish gadget is detailed as follows:
Sensor and Lens
The IXUS 170 offers a 20MP sensor with a maximum image resolution of 5152x3864 pixels. Other resolutions are also supported by this promising camera besides multiple aspect ratio choices in 4: 3 and the standard 16:9. The sensor measures 6.17mmx4.55mm in terms of dimensions besides the CCD make. Image processing unit is the performance oriented DIGIC 4+, working in unison with the image sensor.
The IXUS 170 sports a powerful 12X optical zooming lens as well. ISO sensitivity range is 100-1600 in the Auto mode. This camera also features 5 white balance presets in addition to the Optical Image stabilization. This attribute is existent due to the exhaustive focal length range of 25-300mm, spanning across wide-angle viewing to the telephoto. Maximum lens aperture range is restricted to F3.6-F7.0. Digital zoom is also available at 4X in addition to the normal focus range of 5 cm and macro focus range of 1cm. The IXUS 170 also houses 9 focus points for added functionality.

Metering modes are also available in plenty with Multi, spot and center-weighted. Manual exposure, aperture priority and shutter priority modes are given a miss but the subject or scene modes are available with this gadget. Exposure compensation mode is also featured. Intelligent IS mode is also supported rendering several shake-free clicking options for the customers.
In terms of video capturing, the IXUS 170 offers full HD support at 25 frames per second. Besides the 1080p movies, this camera is also capable of capturing 480p videos at 30 frames per second. Multiple video formats in MPEG-4 and H.264 are supported with mono microphone and speaker support.
The IXUS 170 sports a fixed TFT LCD with the Live Viewing option added along. The 2.7 inch screen offers a resolution of 230K dots but the touch based interface and viewfinder seem to be missing.
