Micromax YU YUREKA: Perfect Blend of Affordability and Quality
Micromax has finally come up with the long awaited YU branded handsets. It was only a matter of time that the company drifted away from usual and adds in something special for the users to have a look at. This might just be one of the many gadgets which the company would release in collaboration with the Cyanogen, better known for creating third party applications and interfaces, CyanogenMod is the OS which is all set to show up at the Micromax YUREKA. Again the hardware specs and even other attributes look pretty much on the basic lines but certainly a lot powerful than what we usually expect from the company. This looks like an unusual Smartphone in the manner the features are packed whereas the OS gets all the attention out here.
Pros: The screen size looks respectable with the protective layers and resolution adding in those extra points. The processor again looks great with multiple cores in action. Being a dual-SIM variant this gadget is all set to express a lot as well. Finally a different OS feels handy and the break from the android monotony looks worthwhile.
Cons: Battery is not the strongest point of this handset. The internal memory support is good but nothing path breaking in terms of innovation.
Here is a detailed review of this recently launched gadget as we look to unearth all the details in terms of specifications, saving a special mention for the operating platform.
The structure has to be in sync with the user requirements and Micromax certainly obliges. The YU logo is all set to exist and the matte feel might certainly be a great inclusion. This gadget as per the images would certainly not be the thickest of the lot. Speculated dimensions involve 154.8mmx78mmx6-8.8mm, and the thickness level has been bounded by a range to allow the users to get a feel of what is coming. Internal memory slot is provided besides most of the physical buttons which are readily available. Another important aspect is the dual-SIM support which is added for lending added flexibility to the users.
The screen size is pretty big at 5.5 inches. The HD screen has IPS display panel which allows the user to view the handset from varied angles. This panel takes care of all the viewing angles rather seamlessly. In comes the HD resolution at 720p, offering a lot in terms of usability and even clarity. The pixel density offered is 267ppi which looks quite sizeable for such an entry-level pricing. Concluding this segment is the Corning Gorilla Glass Protection which offers a scratch resistance layout.
It’s not the usual android platform which we might be expecting like in all the other handsets offered by Micromax. This one comes in with the CyanogenMod OS 11 with android 4.4 i.e. KitKat being its backbone. This OS is a lot different as for the open source feel added to it and packs in quite a lot in terms of features and specs. This OS allows the user to upgrade to the subsequent level of Smartphone handling with the full gamut offered unlike the stock version of android. Some of the important features as experienced are as follows:
The security level is highly improved.
Privacy and data based secrecy is maintained.
Backed up with Micromax’s vision, one might add in the customized themes with changeable attributes and controls.
Be it the streamlined screen for locking or the dynamic status defining bar, this OS has a lot to offer in terms of aesthetics as well.
The final touches of precision involve hardware efficient working interface besides the usable notification drawer which can easily be customized.
Blocking somebody is no more an issue with this OS coming with the gadget.
By the looks of it we could infer that the CyanogenMod is a powerful performer and the innards featured by the YUREKA would certainly make it more efficient. To start with we have the 64 bit chipset in Qualcomm snapdragon 615. This offers an Octa-core processor with different clock speeds for either of the sections involving the quads. The first 4 set of cores clock at 1.5GHz for all the four cores whereas the next set clocks at 1GHz each for the remaining 4 cores. These specs do make the processor a force to reckon with as the users can handle all the multitasking needs with ease. Gaming needs are now taken over by the dedicated GPU in Adreno 405 which again is an efficient spec to watch out for.
Powering the processor is the RAM allocated to the YUREKA which again looks pretty sizeable. The 2GB allotment looks great and literally miraculous at the given price range. The DDR3 make allows the RAM to be in great shape and thus added with the processor, the innards would strike a perfect balance altogether. The next in the list is the internal storage capacity at 16GB which can be expanded up to 32GB on adding the micro-SD card.
The primary camera involves a 13MP unit with the LED flashlight added along. The Sony Exmor RS sensor looks functional here with the 5P lenses being pretty active with the f/2.2 aperture. Slow motion video recording looks great at full HD offering at 30 frames per second and just HD at 60 frames per second. The front facing camera at 5MP is equally powerful with the OmniVision sensor added into the mix. This would include the 4P lenses besides the 71 degree wide viewing angle.
The YUREKA offers a pretty decent battery at 2500mAh but the included OS might drain it a bit faster than usual. 4G support and other connectivity options might put in that extra bit of pressure on the battery and its performance would then be interesting to see.
The Micromax Yu YUREKA is a fantastic handset with truckloads of specification added along. The nominal price tag doesn’t actually justify the full range of specs, but this is where the company surprises. CyanogenMod and such a nifty processor at this price look great while the camera support looks fantastic as well.
