Sony Xperia M2 Dual Overview
Sony Xperia M2 Dual a Mid-Range Handset Featuring Dual-SIM Connectivity
Sony has been trying to consolidate the mid-range repertoire and the Xperia M2 Dual certainly fits the bill. With several innovative specs lined up for the customers, this is one of the more affordable gadgets with the specs sheet detailed as follows:
The Xperia M2 Dual features a 4.8 inch TFT screen with 540x960-pixel resolution, translating into the pixel density level of 229ppi. Besides supporting multi-touch flexibility up to four fingers, this handset also features Corning Gorilla Glass 3, rendering scratch-resistance. In terms of OS the Xperia M2 Dual runs Android Jellybean which is upgradeable to KitKat v4.4.4. The Xperia M2 Dual measures 8.8mm in terms of thickness and weighs 148g. Battery is a 2300mAh unit, claiming up to 12 hours of 3G talk-time. Added features include Dual-SIM connectivity and 3G support.
The Xperia M2 Dual houses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset with a Quad-core processor paired along. The clock speed for all the Cortex-A7 cores is 1.2GHz with the Adreno 305 GPU rendering graphics support. RAM allotted is 1GB and the internal storage limit is 8GB. Micro-SD support is available with an expandable limit of 32GB.

Sony Xperia M2 Dual Detailed Review:
Last year’s Xperia M dual was a bit successful in the mid range segment, but didn't trigger as much as expectations went. Now Sony launched its successor M2 dual which comes with upgraded specs when compared to its predecessor. It comes with a quad core processor and an 8MP camera and falls in sub 20k segment. Let us see how this device performs in the real world and how it fares up in the competition.
Design & Display:
Once again, there is no difference here in the design. This is an Xperia device and sure it looks the same as other devices in the line up. The front is covered with glass and the back surface is made from fully glossy polycarbonate. The phone is quite thinner at 8.6 mm and weights 148 gms. The build quality is rigid enough for a phone in this range. The phone sports a 4.8 inch TFT display with 540x960 pixels resolution and 229 ppi. Colors look good but we have seen rivals which offer better vibrant colors in the display. Viewing angles are okay but the front panel is so reflective that it spoils both the viewing angles and sunlight legibility.
The device comes with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and it is rumored that Sony is planning for a KitKat upgrade. The UI looks similar to what we have seen in the other Xperia devices. The lockscreen has shortcuts for accessing the camera which opens up for a left swipe and a right side swipe gets you music player controls. The notification panel can be customized for which all you need to appear in the top row. Sony has added some of its own custom widgets. Small apps are also present where you can open an app in a small re-sizable window which can float around the screen. There are also some themes where it changes wallpapers and icon colors correspondingly. As far as the UI and general usage is concerned, the interface is very smooth and the device didn't show any lags as of now.
Camera & Audio:
The device is equipped with an 8MP auto focus camera with LED flash at the back and a VGA cam at the front. Once again, nobody expects a VGA front cam for a phone in this price range while the rivals offer better. The camera UI is pretty similar to that of the latest Xperia phones. There is a shutter key which is very small and using it is not so comfortable. Sadly the Superior Auto mode restricts images only upto 5.4MP. Image quality is once again not so impressive. Most of the time, details are lost in the images captured but colors look decent. You can also record 1080p videos at 30fps and the quality here is okay. The loudspeaker produces decent audio output with good clarity from the speaker and even with the headphones, the quality is good, except for the above average loudness levels.
Connectivity & Additional Features:
This phone comes in dual sim version; supports two sim cards and you need to use micro sim card for this phone. Network reception is good and we didn't face any call drops. Call quality is a decent and very clear but again loudness levels are not so ample enough. The phone comes with dual standby and dual call feature. The phone also supports Wifi 802.11, Bluetooth 4.0, FM Radio, 3G and A-GPS. Internal memory is of 8GB and the device also supports micro SD cards upto 32GB. Again Sony brings the NFC feature like its predecessor.
Processor & Battery:
The device runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset with a Quad core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 processor, the same 1GB RAM and Adreno 305 GPU. Most of the time the device runs smoother and even with multi tasking the lag is very minimal and it won't be much of an issue. The phone is able to get some decent score in benchmark tests, with around 17k in Antutu and around 1040 in Geekbench 3. Most of the heavy games are playable but occasional frame rate drops and lag can be observed. The phone features a whopping 2300mAh capacity battery which easily lasts more than a day under moderate usage. Put on the Stamina and you can expect it to last almost two days easily. This is good, but the only downside in the battery is, it is non removable.
Beautiful design and rigid build NFC Good battery life Decent performance
Low resolution display Average image quality Non user removable battery
Overall, the M2 dual feels like a decent package. It has the same beautiful design of Xperias, an impressive battery life which is quite helpful and performance is decent in the segment. But again, the same disadvantages we have observed in its predecessor follow up. The image quality still leaves a lot to be desired. The screen is very reflective at the front which spoils the overall impression. So finally, if you're okay with these cons, the M2 dual would be a decent choice and would disappoint you but still you better have a look at rivals like Moto G, LG L90 dual, Samsung S4 mini which could make a better choice depending on your requirements.
